- What is your cylinder head and cylinder block warranty
policy and how does it work?
All remanufactured cylinder heads are
guaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanship. All automotive
cylinder heads are guaranteed for six months, or 6,000 miles, whichever comes
first. Cylinder head warranties are limited to replacement of defective head,
gasket necessary to install.
Items not covered by the warranty include
oil, oil filter, antifreeze and damages resulting from loss of time or usage of
the vehicle. Original warranty is not extended as a result of repairs or
replacement .
The warranty is void if the head exhibits signs of being
overheated.
Warranty is also void if the head is warped as a result of
heat or improper head bolt torque. In the event of a failure, please contact
Midwest Cylinder Head and Machine immediately. All defective cylinder heads must be
returned uncleaned. The cylinder head must be tagged and boxed. A completed
warranty claim form and the original repair order must accompany the cylinder
head.
- What is your freight policy?
All inbound
product for repair is FOB Nevada Iowa. All remanufactured heads will be
returned freight collect.
- What is your core deposit policy?
The
customer will be billed a "Core Deposit" for any head we ship from exchange
stock.
The core deposit will be refunded upon receipt of a like
rebuildable head. If the core is unacceptable for remanufacturing, the customer
will be given the option of sending another like core, or paying the core
deposit. The core must be returned within 30 days from the date of invoice for
full credit. Cores returned after 30 days of invoice will be refunded for
casting value only.
- Can any crack or damage be repaired?
In most
cases, the answer is yes. Some things that can affect our ability to repair an
item are:
Your head or block is made of "dirty" material. That means
that the cast iron that your head or block is made from has many impurities in
it. The new cast iron material that add to it will not bond to the original
material. In other words, the weld will not stick.
The head is beyond
machining limits. That means that the head or block has been surfaced too many
times and would be too thin to properly compress the head gaskets if it were
surfaced again. Or the head has been rebuilt many times and the valve seats are
a large diameter. If we were to put the a larger diameter seat in the head, we
would cut into the water cavities of the head. If that happened, than we would
need to weld up the seat areas of the head and recut them for smaller seats.
All that welding would cost so much that it probably be better to find another
head that doesn't need so much welding.
- Do you arc weld cast iron heads and
blocks?
No. What we do is called 'oven fusion cast iron welding. The
heads and blocks are slowly heated to the proper temperature in large ovens and
are then welded with a torch and cast iron welding rod and flux. When the
welding is done, they are slowly cooled overnight to avoid new cracks and to
relieve internal stress in the welded item. All aluminum heads are tig welded
only.
- Why should I choose a welded head or block?
A
head or block that has been repaired by welding costs less than a new or used
one. If it is not a common engine, than there are many times when you cannot
find a new or used one. Antique, obsolete engines, and parts are sometimes
hard. or impossible, to find. In all cases, welded heads and blocks are as good
as new and and many times they are even stronger than the original casting
design.
